Ivan KALMYKOV  1866 — 1925

Іван КАЛМИКОВ • Иван КАЛМЫКОВ

Ivan Kalmykov was one of those Russian artists whose creative life was destroyed by the Bolshevik Revolution. A pupil of Makovsky and Polenov, Kalmykov was quickly appreciated by his contemporaries and colleagues; after graduating from Moscow Art Institute he actively exhibited in Russia, Vienna and Munich. Works by the Kalmykov were bought by Pavel Tretyakov. At the time of the Revolution, the artist was in the Far East, from whence he emigrated to the United States.
