Studied at Moscow Intermediate Art School in 1939-1945; Moscow Surikov Art Institute in 1945-1951. Active in Moscow. Began exhibiting in 1953. Specialized in provincial landscapes, especially of Russian North. Became a Soviet academician. Awarded Repin prize in 1968. Outstanding realist 1950s-1970s; led the movement towards Russian country subjects after death of Stalin. Died in Moscow in 1973. |
