Boris (Ber) Israilevich Anisfeld was born in Belz, Moldova in 1878. After finishing Odessa Art School in 1900, studied at the Academy of Arts in St Petersburg, under D.Kardovsky and I.Repin (1901-1909). From 1903 participated in exhibitions, including Union of Russian Artists and World of Art. Member of the World of Art group from 1910. From 1907 worked for the Theatre of V.Kommissarzhevskiy and for the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. In 1911, Diaghilev of the Ballet Russe in Paris chose him to design the production of "Sadko" and this began his career with that company. From 1917 lived in USA and worked as theatre designer for the Metropoliten-Opera and the Chicago-Opera. Boris Anisfeld was a sculptor, lithographer, painter, illustrator, and set designer. Died in 1973 in Connecticut, USA.
