Maks (Max) Avadevich (Avdeevich) Birshtein was born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1914. Painter and graphic artist. Studied at Moscow Art Institute in 1935-1942. Active in Moscow. Began exhibiting in 1939. Painted portraits, landscapes, still life, and some genre paintings. He also painted many scenes of the Russian North in the 1950s-1960s. His works were influenced by R. Falk. Died in Moscow in 2000.
