Aristarkh Vasilievich Lentulov was born in Nizhnee Lomovo, Penza province in 1882. Studied at Penza Drawing School in 1898-1900; at Kyiv Art College in 1900-1905; Penza Art College in 1905; in D.N.Kardovski’s studio, St. Petersburg in 1906-1907. Active in Moscow from 1909. Member of Jack of Diamonds in 1911-1917; World of Art in 1917-1922; Moscow InKhuK in 1920; Moscow Painters in 1925-1926 (founder member); AkhRR in 1926; OMKh from 1928. Lentulov was influenced by the School of Paris, especially Le Fauconnier, under whom he studied in 1911. Also known as monumentalist and theatre artist. Died in Moscow in 1943.
