Pinchus (Pavel) KREMEGNE  1890 — 1981

Павел КРЕМЕНЬ • Павел КРЕМЕНЬ

Born in Russia in 1890 Pinchus Kremegne studied art at the illustrious Fine Arts School of Vilnius. Chased by the pogroms, he escaped to France in 1912, and became one of the main Jewish Russian painters who created in Montparnasse the famous "Ecole de Paris". A music fan, Kremegne claimed that he organized his canvasses like a maestro his orchestra. To him each color is an instrument which plays its own score. Kremegne nudes are known for their powerful violence, whereas landscapes are constructed like a "bouquet" of flowers. Kremegne died in 1981. His masterpieces are now in major museums, right next to his friends` paintings Chagall, Chana Orloff, Kikoïne, ManeKatz or Soutine. Kremegne is, of course, listed in all auction books but very few of his paintings are still available.
