Jacques CHAPIRO 1897 — 1972Яків ШАПІРО • Яков Александрович ШАПИРОJacques Chapiro was born in Dvinsk, Latvia in 1897. He was the son of a wood carver. Started to paint at the age of 10. Studied at the art schools in Kharkiv (1915) and Kyiv (1918). Became the head of the art school in Ekaterinoslav in 1919. In 1920 moved to Petrograd, where he studied at the Petrograd State Free Art Studios (ПГСХМ). He also worked for the Petgorad and Moscow theatres as a stage designer. Chapiro exhibited with the group «Buro» in Petrograd in 1922 and Obyedineniye in Moscow in1925. Moved to Paris in 1925. Exhibited at the Autumn Salone sicne 1926. Personal exhibitions took place in 1936 and 1946. Shapiro died in Paris in 1972. |
