Konstantin Egorovich Makovsky was born in 1839 in Moscow. Studied in Moscow College of Art, Sculpture and Architecture in 1851-1858 in the studios of Zoranko and Scott; also at St. Petersburg Art Academy in 1858-1863. Worked in St. Petersburg, Moscow and Paris. Visited Near East, Serbia and Bulgaria in 1876. Painted genre and historical paintings, also portraits. Died in 1915 in St. Petersburg.
