Studied at Odessa Drawing School in 1865-1877; Academy of Arts, Munich from 1877. Active in St. Petersburg; Germany from 1913. Specialized in panoramas, battle subjects. Well-known panoramas include The Defence of Sevastopol. Taught at Imperial Academy of Arts in 1904-1912, where he was a head of battle-painting studio. Became an academician in 1908. Became an Active Member of Academy of Arts in 1910. Died in Munich in 1928. |
