Nikolai Vechtomov was born in Moscow in 1923. Served at the Soviet army, was taken prisoner, escaped from a concentration camp and joined partisans in Czecholsovakia during the World War II. In 1946 became a student at the Moscow City Art College, which was closed in 1949 for alleged “formalism”. In 1951 graduated from the Moscow Regional Art College and since then he has worked as a designer, while painting in his spare time. Vechtomov’s creative style took shape at the beginning of the 1960s. It contained natural forms combined with abstract geometrical motifs. The artist died in 2007.
