Boris Petrovich Sveshnikov was born in Moscow in 1927. Studied at MIPIDI in 1943-1945. In 1946 was arrested by Stalin and sent to prison camp in Komi Autonomous Republic (1946-1954) and later to Tarusa, Kaluga (1954-1957). Returned from prison in early 1960s. Started exhibiting in 1969. Painter and graphic artist. Made celebrated series of drawings of life in prison camp early 1950s. Nonconformist artist of 1960s-1980s. Died in 1998.
