Leonid Osipovich Pasternak was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1862. A father of the famous writer and poet, Boris Pasternak. Leonid Pasternak studied at the Odessa Drawing School in 1979-1981, Munich Academy of Arts in 1883-1885. In 1881 Pasternak entered Medical faculty of the Moscow University. In 1885 graduated from the Law department of Odessa University. The artist taught in his private studio in Moscow in 1889-1894 and in Vchutemas in 1894-1921. Founding member of the Union of Russian artists. In 1889 joined “Polenovsky” group in Moscow. Lived in Germany from 1921 and was sent out of the country to Great Britain in 1938. The artist died in Oxford in 1945.
