Aleksandr Vladimirovich Makovskiy was born in Moscow in 1869. Son of V.E. Makovskiy. Studied at Imperial Academy of Arts in 1894-1895; Moscow College of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Active in St. Petersburg/Petrograd. Member of MTKh from 1890s; Itinerants from 1902. Exhibited with Itinerants in 1899-1922; Comradeship of Artists; AkhRR in 1924. Taught at Imperial Academy of Arts from 1898. Became an academician in 1911. Also a graphic artist. Died in 1924.
