Studied at 1905 Art Tekhnikum in 1931-1936; Moscow Art Institute 1936-1942, as post-grad. 1942-1945. Active in Moscow. Began exhibiting in 1939. Specialized in thematic paintings, genre paintings showing scenes of Russian country life. Taught at Surikov Institute in 1948-1951. Became a Soviet academician in 1975. Awarded Stalin prize in 1950. Highly influential Russian realist. |
