Toni Franović was born in Zagreb in 1964. He graduated from Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied in the studio of Vasilije Jordan. In 1992-1993 he joined the Fine Arts Project in Arad, Israel. During the 1994-1995 academic year he was the artist in residence at the Kresge Academic Center, American University in Washington, D.C. From 1995 to 2004 Franović worked as an associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zabreb at the department of drawing and painting. Since 1992 the artist has been the fine arts consultant at the Center for Jewish Culture and Creativity of Los Angeles, as well as the center’s representative for Europe, and has been affiliated with the Judaica Project, Washington, D.C. Franović executed interior design and decoration for the Ohr Kodesh Congregation in Chevy Chase, Maryland, the Oxnam Chapel of American University in Washington, D.C., the JCC Building in Zagreb and the Nama Department Store in Zagreb. Tony Franović lives and works in New York City.
